There are many ways to choose the right size. We have a few tips on how to select the right size:

Wall Size
If you have a bare wall, we usually recommend the largest size that fits. We always recommend a minimum of 10-20 cm of space on each side of the map.

Example 1:
If you have a wall that measures 250 cm, we would recommend our large world map, which measures 100×200 cm. This will create 25 cm of space on each side.

Example 2:
If you have a wall that measures 205 cm, our large world map will only have 2.5 cm of space on each side, which may look cramped. Therefore, we recommend our medium map instead, which measures 75×150 cm and will have 27.5 cm of space on each side. If you feel there is too much space, it can be filled with our various map additions, such as clocks or picture bars.

Furniture Size
If the map is to hang over furniture, we recommend purchasing a map that matches the size of the furniture. If the furniture measures approximately 200 cm wide, it will match perfectly with our large world map. If the furniture measures 180 cm, it will look better if the map is slightly smaller, for example, our medium map at 75×150 cm, rather than the map being larger than the furniture.

Our maps are designed to hang on many different types of walls, both smooth and uneven. A selection of the walls our products currently hang on includes:

• Plaster walls
• Textured walls
• Painted brick walls
• Concrete walls
• Wallpapered walls

Even if your wall is not on the list, it’s important to remember that our maps can hang on virtually all types of walls.

Most of our maps hang using a combination of 2 methods. The larger pieces are hung using magnets. We prefer to keep the wooden pieces as large as possible, which is why they require something stronger than foam tape to support them. The magnets also provide good adjustability for the map. All the smaller pieces are hung using 3M foam tape.

Nedoymium magnets

• Our neodymium magnets are very strong and capable of holding large pieces of wood securely to the wall.
• The magnets allow for multiple adjustments after they are screwed into the wall.
• Using our paper template, you can place the magnets and the product very precisely on the wall.
• The magnets raise the map approximately 3 mm from the wall. This creates a floating effect and a shadow that enhances the contrast against the wall, allowing the map to stand out better.

Double-sided foam tape

• Our foam tape is very strong and effective at securely holding smaller islands to the wall.
• The foam tape is suitable for uneven walls. As most of it is foam, the tape molds around bumps and maximizes contact with the wall.
• Easy to place and press the islands firmly.
• The foam tape raises the map approximately 3 mm from the wall. This creates a floating effect and a shadow that enhances the contrast against the wall, allowing the map to stand out better.

It varies greatly from map to map how long it takes to set up. Some of our municipality maps can be set up in 5 minutes, while our largest world maps can take up to 180 minutes. We usually recommend getting the whole family to help with the setup to make it as quick as possible, and it’s usually more fun in company.

The first known world map is the Babylonian World Map, dating back to around the 6th century BC. Throughout history, many different world maps have been developed, each with its unique style and accuracy based on the geographical knowledge of the time.

The first world map from World In Wood was created in the summer of 2019.

The number of countries in Europe can vary depending on political recognition, but generally, there are about 44 sovereign states in Europe, including transcontinental countries like Russia and Turkey, which have territory in both Europe and Asia. However, it’s important to note that the number can change over time due to political changes and territorial disputes.

While our Europe map does not include Russia. Turkey, Armenia, Georgia, and Azerbaijan are included.
